Apple Season

Apple Picking Tips
Apple picking is a New England family tradition. With the right care when picking your fruit can easily last to Thanksgiving and even Christmas and be as fresh as it was when picked. Gently lift and tist the fruit off the branch once you have chosen the fruit you want to pick. Leave fruit on the tree that you do not want to take home. Place the fruit gently into the bag, do not toss it in it will bruise! When two apple are adjacent each other on the branch grasp both and twist in opposite directions, this will prevent dropping any fruit on the ground.

Storing Apples
Once you have brought your apples home keep them in a cool dry place, out of sunlight, preferrably around 35-45 degrees F. If there are any puntured apples in the bag remove them because they will be more likely to spoil. Harder apples, like fuji and Gala, store better than soft, such as McIntosh.
